On Thursday 22nd September UWE held it’s own record breaking Freshers’ Fair with the highest number of students in attendance. The UWE Bullets went all out this year with an impressive 42″ TV hired to display last seasons highlight films. This combined with a great committee and returners turn out all day, and a real ‘I WILL’ attitude, lead to a club record 349 potential players signing up for try outs.
The UWE Bullets split their tryouts into a non-kitted athletic testing evening on Wednesday 28th September, and a full contact kitted try out on Sunday 2nd October. After these try outs the team are holding their first team social combined with the UWE Comets on Monday 3rd October.
The current committee are looking to hold a 65 man squad which will be named on Tuesday 4th October via the roster on this website. However, they are also considering due to the high interest, increasing the total squad number and investigating if we as a club could set up and support a UWE Junior Varsity team along side the current team. This decision will be decided after the tryouts when the club has a better idea of numbers. The UWE Bullets work very closely with the local BAFANL team the Bristol Aztecs/Apache and any players that do not make the cut will be asked to train with the Aztecs throughout the season. Then if roster slots become free due to injury or players leaving then we will be able to bring these guys back in.
This is a very exciting time for the UWE Bullets and the current coaching staff and committee are looking forward to see what happens at the tryouts.
